Textured hair: how to keep curls beautiful between washes?

Written by admin_euro

Ten years ago in France, nine out of ten women straightened their hair. Today, they are so much for keeping them natural. A few pro tips for beautiful curls every day.

For beautiful curls, it’s good to understand how your hair is made. “The structure of textured hair is no different from that of straight hair.explains Jean-Michel Gaudineau, educator Kérastase. But, unlike the latter, its implantation at the level of the hair follicle in the dermis is angled, which explains this spiral convolution. Consequence: the hair fiber is flat and not round like that of straight hair. » Its fragility and its tendency to rupture are explained precisely by this self-winding. In places where the hair is bent, its diameter is thinner and the scales tend to stand up. This makes it very vulnerable to external aggression.

Another important key to understand: textured hair is not naturally dry. In fact, the sebum produced at the root level and which should hydrate the fiber along its entire length to the ends simply does not reach its destination, because the spiral shape of the hair slows its flow…

What routine for textured hair?

Wash textured hair on average once every 5-21 days. However, care should be taken to hydrate and nourish the lengths more regularly, according to your needs. The secret to a beautiful curl? Identify it correctly – again according to the Andre Walker scale – knowing that a head of hair can have many types. Then, we observe how the hair responds to care (the faster it absorbs it, the thirstier it gets), whether it dries quickly or not, whether it has a voluminous mass or is quite thin… /or the more pronounced the curls, the more hydration and nutrition they will need. Some good gestures to keep your curls beautiful every day:

Detangling on dry hair is best before washing – and especially not between washes, which would produce an uncontrollable frothy mass). PFor drying, we prefer a microfiber towel, which dries less than a cotton towel. (even a t-shirt). Finally, we favor the “plopping” technique. On slightly towel-dried hair, detangle with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb. Apply the styling and/or nourishing product of your choice, before spreading the towel out on a flat surface and placing the lengths in between. Then secure the hair into a block by twisting the fabric on each side. The operation ends by making a knot above the head. Leave it for at least half an hour and you’re done! Dry curls are left soft and well defined.

How not to break curls at bedtime?

To avoid unpleasant surprises when waking up, they are tied above the head in a loose ponytail, preferably using an Invisibobble-like elastic band (which looks like a telephone cord). “ And if the hair has been stressed during the day (air conditioning, sun, etc.), recommends Kelly Massol, creator of Les Secrets de Loly, a clean brand for textured hair. You can also cover it with a silk or satin scarf, or invest in a cushion sewn from the same materials. Less abrasive and absorbent than cotton, it protects curls better.
